This relaxed and friendly evening is your chance to find out all about this exciting new musical, listen to some of the songs, learn about the characters, and hear our plans for bringing this much-loved British TV institution to the stage. Who knows — there might even be a cuppa and a slice of cake on offer too! Whether you’re interested in performing, joining the ensemble, or helping behind the scenes, new and returning members are warmly welcomed. If you have any questions ahead of the evening, feel free to get in touch with us! ✨ At the evening, you’ll: - Meet the Director and Production Team - Hear about the show and how it’s being adapted for the stage - Listen to some of the music from the show - Learn about the characters and audition requirements - Find out how you can get involved — onstage and off - Hear about rehearsal commitments and key dates - Enjoy a friendly chat and explore our theatre What We’re Looking For - Performers aged 18+ for principal and ensemble roles - Confident singers and dancers for ensemble roles (including harmony singing) - People to support backstage, technical, and production areas Please note: playing ages listed below are playing ages, not actual ages.
Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday and Thursday.
Character Overview Pam Lee – Playing age 60–70 (based on Prue Leith) Brilliantly sharp and stylish — cutting remarks, bold glasses, bright clothes, and a heart that’s sometimes as soft as sponge. Phil Hollinghurst – Playing age 50–55 (based on Paul Hollywood) The silver fox with the famous handshake, reserved only for the most irresistible bakes. Jim & Kim – Playing age 20–50, any gender The show’s hosts, providing much of the comic relief with a light-hearted, witty, and often silly dynamic. Izzy – Playing age 20–25 A fiercely focused Cambridge student — competitive, confident, full of sass, and determined to win. Russell – Playing age 40–60 Meticulous and methodical, with a scientific approach to baking. Warm-hearted beneath his logical exterior. Francesca – Playing age 30–40 An Italian baker bringing her Nonna’s recipes to Bognor. Sweet, gentle, quietly determined, and emotionally strong. Dezza – Playing age 25–40 A laid-back vegan hipster living on a canal boat. Quirky, outspoken, and full of comic charm. Babs – Playing age 60–70 A retired East London dinner lady — no-nonsense, witty, and wonderfully candid. Hassan – Playing age 18 A confident sixth-form student from Wembley, brimming with youthful energy. Please note: Hassan is from Syria, and the actor should look appropriately Middle Eastern. Gemma – Playing age 30–40 A carer from Blackpool who doubts herself and often feels out of place, despite her talent. Ben – Playing age 30–50 A widowed policeman raising his young daughter alone. Quiet, modest, and deeply heartfelt. Lily – Playing age 9 Ben’s daughter. This role will be cast at a later date — auditions are not required at the initial meeting. 🎶 Ensemble Although the original show was written without an ensemble, our production will include 6–8 ensemble roles. The Little Theatre is a registered charity and is an organisation run entirely by our members. Although we have an executive committee, we rely on all members to assist with the maintenance of the theatre and the staging of each show. Once a member, you will be placed on the rota for front-of-house duties of any show you are not involved with, and may also be asked to spare a couple of hours to help clean the theatre on the Sunday before and after a show – it is quite common to be performing on stage one night and hoovering the auditorium the next morning, but we’re all in this together!! We also have three ‘work sessions’ each summer where members are asked to help at one of the sessions to do small maintenance jobs around the theatre.
