A Bunch of Amateurs

Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steele arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford – only to find that this is not the birthplace of the Bard, but a sleepy Suffolk village. And instead of Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench, the cast are a bunch of amateurs trying to save their theatre from developers. Jefferson’s monstrous ego, vanity and insecurity are tested to the limit by the enthusiastic am-dram thespians. As acting worlds collide and Jefferson’s career implodes, he discovers some truths about himself – along with his inner Lear!

Robinson Crusoe

Celebrating our Platinum Anniversary by revisiting the very first show performed by The Little Theatre Donnington in 1954. This reimagined version of the classic story follows Robinson, who, with the help of his friends Sally and Billy, and his trusty companion, Friday the parrot, embarks on an adventure to find the treasure before the evil Blackheart gets his hands on it.

Hello, Dolly!

In 1890s New York City, the bold and enchanting widow Dolly Levi is a socialite-turned-matchmaker. Her latest clients seeking assistance are the cantankerous "half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder and a young artist named Ambrose, who is in love with Horace's niece, Ermengarde. Dolly's scheming soon involves Horace's employees as well as a New York hatmaker, as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs.

Habeas Corpus

A hilarious romp as members of the Wicksteed family pursue their romantic and lustful ambitions.
In a satirical merry-go-round of mistaken identities and amorous encounters, we meet a series of characters for whom carnal pleasure appears to be the ruling passion of their lives.

One of master playwright Alan Bennett’s funniest plays.
